Start Hiking

One of my favourite things to do is go outside and hike now that the weather is so nice! The natural beauty is so incredible

Why Should You Start Hiking?

  • Experience the natural beauty of mother nature- you'll be surprised how much there is to see
  • Get Outside! It's so easy to become stuck in our daily routine but take the time to slow things down and do something for yourself
  • De-stress! The combination of the birds chirping, the fresh air, the animals running around and the preserved nature call for a serious decrease in stress levels. Whenever I get too caught up with what I'm doing just getting outside puts things back into perspective
  • Low cost- other than the cost of gas and maybe lunch, going for a hike is cost-free! Note that you do need to pay for some trails and parks so that they can keep up maintenance but there are plenty of public trails, free to use.

Where Should You Start Hiking?
Look up trails or parks in your area! A website like AllTrails.com has a great list and you can search by difficulty, length, duration, activity or other filters.

Parks Canada or Parks Ontario would have a cumulative list of the official trails in your province.

I'm currently hiking the Bruce Trail which runs from Niagara to Tobermory in little bits in total it's about 1000km (including side trails) and although some people hike it end-to-end it also makes for a great day trip.

Below are some photos from the hikes I've been on over the years.

We even met a friend!
Hope you've been inspired to get out and hike! What are your favourite hiking spots? Comment Below!

Build-a-Smoothie

I love breakfast smoothies. They are a great way to get in all of your nutrients for they day ahead. In addition to that they are quick and easy! Below is the formula to make any green smoothie, 2 of my favourite recipes and some things to keep in mind!

Every green smoothie that I make has a base of :
  • Leafy Greens
  • Banana
  • Seed (Chia or Flax)
  • Additional Fruit or Veggies
  • Protein Powder
  • Liquid (Almond Milk, Water, Coconut Water) I usually add enough to cover the leafy green
Berry Green Smoothie

  • Kale
  • Banana
  • Chia Seeds
  • Frozen 4-Berry Mix
  • Protein Powder
  • Water
Zen Green Smoothie

  • Kale
  • Banana
  • Chia (Not too much)
  • Apple
  • Protein Powder
  • Water
Notes for your smoothie:
  • Drink the whole thing within half an hour. Most of the nutrients will be gone after that
  • I have a vitamix and although it's heavy duty I still like to slice and dice everything before I put it in, just so it lasts longer
  • Leave the seeds in your fruits and veggies. For example I didn't remove the core of my apple because that where a lot of the healthy nutrients are
Enjoy everyone! What are your favourite green smoothies? Comment below

Day At The Zoo

A few weeks ago I spent a day at the Toronto Zoo! Although it looks cold with all of the snow it was actually one of the first warm days we've had in awhile.

Arctic Wolf

The polar bear cub was something like 3 months old! He wouldn't stop running around and visiting everyone.

Next time you go to the Toronto Zoo, make the trek out to the Canadian Domain. I never used to go because it was so out of the way, but now it's my favourite part!

Canadian Moose

 Canadian Buffalo

 White Lion

Meercats

Have a great day everyone!

Start Spring Early

Start Spring Early

I definitely have Spring Fever, but with the weather being so cold outside it's to early to pull out all of my warm-weather clothes.. or is it? Above shows 3 way to "Spring Up" your looks.

Colour- The first look (farthest to the left) shows how colour can make a huge difference. The bright coral sweater pulls focus and the gold flats keep it fresh supposed to wearing boots. But you still stay nice warm with the leggings and the sweater.

Trends- Start playing around with some trends for spring. This look (the middle) shows a pastel pink crop top. Although the shirt is tight and shows a lot of skin, it balances out with the extra long cardigan and boyfriend jeans. I paired it with the brown ankle boots to keep it appropriate for the time of year.

Accessories- This is probably the easiest way to edit an outfit (farthest to the right). To the basic t-shirt and jeans I've added a statement mint bib necklace with a gold watch and gold rings. Instead of mint you could do pink, lavender or coral. Also I added white tennis shoes instead of boots to once again, freshen it up.

Notice how both jeans are rolled up ever so slightly? I do this to all of my jeans in the warmer weather. Roll them up ever so slightly just on the ankle, not too much.

Goals for March

Go Vegetarian!
That's right I'm cutting out meat. I'm currently transitioning into my new eating plan by eating significantly less meat and taking more supplements to make sure I get all of my vitamins. It'll be fun to write posts about and share recipes. Are any of you vegetarian? Leave me some comments with tips and recipes.

Daily Yoga
I've always loved yoga but never made time for it, so my goal is to do half an hour everyday. They say it takes 21 days to make a habit so try and stick to it!

Eating Breakfast
So important but I always skip it, and then I spend the next few hours feeling tired and hungry.

So I think for these goals in order to stick with them everyday I'll have to plan meals ahead of time and fit in yoga and meal prep into my schedule. For my goal posts I'll do updates throughout the month.

What are your goals for March? Let me know in the comments below!

LUSH Room Freshener?

My favourite LUSH product of all time is the Christmas Eve Bubble Bar. Only available around the holidays so I treat myself to it every year. But this year, I was hesitant to use it because having the bubble bar in my room made it smell so good.

So I pulled out a nice little plate and set the bubble bar right on it. I moved it around between my closet, bedroom and bathroom for the next few weeks and trust me when I say it smelt great. It definitely dried out the bubble bar but it was still fine to use in the bath.

I think it's a nice idea, and your totally get the most out of your LUSH product. Try using your bubble bars as room fresheners for a couple weeks, and then toss them in the bath.

Stay Safe This Winter

Wow, Winter this year is sure kicking our butts. Just a quick reminder to stay safe and warm in the brutal temperatures. Keep gas in your car and always have your winter coat, mittens and boots with you in case your mode of transportation gets stuck or breaks down. Winter is my favourite time of year, but just take extra caution to make sure that you're prepared in case the unexpected happens.

Stay safe everyone!
